Cookie helmets are designed for flying by folks that love to fly. Sleek lines, great colors, versatile and highly functional, they’re the only choice for a large chunk of our sport; but our helmets aren’t designed with only looks or even functionality in mind. Our G4 and M3 Helmets are designed to offer a level of safety and security not previously seen in airsports. Sure, you’ll look great and enjoy flying equipment that does exactly what you need, but that’s far from the end of the story. Through use of cutting edge materials and extensive R&D, Cookie helmets are designed with protection as their central theme.
For most of skydiving’s history, impact rated helmets simply weren’t an option. Thankfully, helmets that offered minimal protection and didn’t take things like snag points and emergency release systems into mind have made way for the next generation in jumper safety. But what makes modern Cookie helmets stand out from its predecessors? To ensure we offer the kind of impact protection skydivers can count on, we at Cookie proudly embraced a variety of testing procedures in 201 with the release of our M3 helmet. We saw the need to set a new standard, and certification was the obvious path.
What kind of certification? Well, we’re glad you asked.
Developed by AFNOR (Association Française de Normalization) in Conjunction with the French Parachute Federation, a testing standard for skydiving and wind tunnel helmets named XPS 72-600 was created. The idea behind it was a simple one. Develop testing protocols that relate to airsport specific helmets not simply through impact testing, but the testing of a wide variety of other factors. Such as,
- Snag Testing
- Chin Strap Buckle Release reliability
- Impact Testing after environmental conditioning
- Coverage
- Roll Off
- Field of View
- Chin Strap Retention
- Liner Materials
- Visor Optics and Impact protection
- Labelling and Instruction Manual compliance
- Certificate of Conformity
After the development of a new product Cookie relies on third party testing companies to handle all the testing processes. Once the tests are completed and the products meet the testing protocol the Laboratory issues a Certificate of Compliance.
It’s how we are able to ensure every helmet we design offers you every ounce of protection we say it does.
The thing is, we at Cookie know how important safety is in our sport because we’re right there on that load with you. We’re in the tunnel trying to dial in that next move. We’re dragging across the pond too. We love the sound of our chin strap clicking and visor snapping into place just like you do, because we know our Certified Helmets are tested to offer the security and protection we all want, and the performance you demand.
